1. ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE |
|||||
|
|
▪ The school expects consistent academic performance of all learners. The current promotion, (and retention), policy is described below and is subject to amendment without notice. For the latest information contact the Administrative Manager.
PROMOTION POLICY (REVISED OCTOBER 2005) 1. The weighted average of all the 3 terms’ marks will be the basis for promotion to the next grade from Grades 3 till 11/12 inclusive. These marks will include the marks for Check-Point exams for grades 4, 7 and 9.
2. Conditional promotion will only be at the discretion of the relevant committee for those below an aggregate average of 70% in Grades 3, 4, 5 & 6 and for those below an aggregate average of 60% in Grades 7, 8, 9, 10 & 11.
3. Continuous assessment marks will be included in the final totals for all grades from Grade 3 upward except for Grades 9 & 11/12 in which case these marks will be reflected on the report form but will not be added to the end of term examination mark.
4. Retention in any grade will strictly be subject to availability of place in the grade retained. If there is no place in the grade to be retained then a social promotion shall be granted. Such a learner's grades shall not be considered when computing the average grades of the class concerned.
5. Retention of girls in any grade will only be effected after due consultation with the respective parent/guardian.
6. Retention of boys will be effected if their percentages are below those as stipulated in this document.
7. The term "Fail" on the report form has been replaced by the symbol "U" which stands for "Unsatisfactory level of work".
8. Please note that from Grade 7 upward, promotion will not be solely based on the learner's academic performance but will also be based on the learner's overall conduct during the school year. Any learner having been judged to be incorrigible or a general nuisance to the School will not be considered for promotion. Such a learner may be liable for de-registration.
9. In the case of accelerated promotion, the learner will be tested for an advanced class on the request of the parent and on the recommendation of the teacher/s. If the learner does well, then the respective names shall be submitted to the Promotion Committee for consideration. The Head Teachers, in consultation with the respective Coordinator, are to prepare a list of all such learners for consideration. Availability of space in the grade applied for is of paramount importance. The other possible reason for accelerated promotion can be the advancing age of the learner in relation to the average age of his current grade.
10. No promotion will be considered below the cut-off point agreed upon by the Promotion Committee.
11. The Promotion Committee reserves the right to promote/retain a learner.
